What would it cost to put a high performance engine in a Smart car?

I am about to buy a smart cabriolet, and I think it might be a bit too slow for my long commute where I do about 90mph on average. I know that the Smart is electronically limited to 90, and I would like to know that my car is super fast so what are some engines I could replace it with, and how much would labor run me? Please and thanks!|||Hayabusa swap did not produce a fast car. It basically was in the high 5's to 60 which for the weight of the car is not acceptable.

This is a dumb conversation anyway...because in order to put the power to the road you need to weigh the car down otherwise it will be unstable. So basically you increase power then increase weight and basically lose the speed that increase of power creates.

If you want a small fast car get a mini cooper s and up the boost. End of story. This is the only small car I know of that has an engine that can handle greater than factory boost without rebuild.|||If you want to drive that fast, you should buy something else, it's that simple. It will cost you far more to buy a Smart Cabriolet and modify it to be as fast as say an MX5 than it will to just buy an MX5. And the Smart will never handle as well.

I know MX5's aren't that fast, but they are a lot faster than Smart cars, and not a lot more expensive.|||OK, go ahead drive a pre squished car. Bigger motor? Cost? Ah, leg room, comfort, more heat, Too much speed for brakes. Engine torque constantly flipping car on side? I think cost would be too much to bear.

Honestly? That engine is already stressed and over loaded. Plus, package is too small to install a bigger motor. Without serious reork. You'd wind up looking and handling like a 1963 Beetle with a 454 Chevy rat motor shoved in. BUT, the Beetle could actually be engineered to work with a Rat motor easier and cheaper than that glorified accident waiting to happen Smart car.

Sorry. Just find them fascinating and yet entirely overblown. No offense. There are better MPG cars and they are more user friendly over long commutes.|||is not easy to do but you could swap a hayabusa engine in it. ive seen it done. a smart car with a hayabusa engine in it will smoke most cars|||it's a lethally unstable car at high speed fitting a bigger or more powerful engine would be a prelude to suicide, trouble is you may take someone else with you|||Sthil 090 AV, Huskvarna 6.0, Powlin 6.0
