I only see smart cars with like up to 6,000 miles on them USED.
Do they only get up to 50,000 thousand miles before things go wrong or do these kind of cars run forever?|||It lasts the same as any other car if maintained properly, I have heard of a European diesel smarts going to 450,000 km before the engine needs work. They do have particular service requirements though, for engine oil nothing but euro spec Mobil 1 (or equivalent) synthetic 0-40 is approved.
edit: as of now there is only the smartfortwo, the production of the smartfourfour and the smart roadster was discontinued, these models were never brought into N. America anyway.|||Which Smart? There are 3 different kinds.
The Smart Fortwo is the smallest.
All newer cars, no matter what the brand, reaches 200,000 miles easily.
The Smart Fortwo only seats 2 people. Tiny storage space. Not a real trunk. It only comes with an automatic transmission.
It is very safe because of the way the frame is designed. Size has almost nothing to do with safety. That is a myth.
It gets 33mpg city and 41mpg highway according to the Smart website.
Smart is not a reliable brand. It is made by Mercedes so they do break down a lot and have expensive maintenance and require PREMIUM gas.
But still, they would definitely reach 200,000 miles.
Americans have it stuck in their minds that the end of a cars life of 100,000 miles, but that is not even close. That was true back in the 70's and 80's, but technology is much better now.
People sell them becaise they are not comfortable and not practical and a waste of money. A Honda Civic could be bought cheaper and get similar gas mileage.
