Is a 1999 subaru forester a smart car choice?

I have about 4000 dollars to spend on a car and I have always loved the subaru forester, so i was thinking of getting a 1999 since it falls in my price range. Does anyone know if these are good cars and how many miles can they go ? Thanks !|||If you take good care of it and it's been taken good care of, you can get 400,000 miles or more out of it. Make sure that the timing belt has been changed at the proper interval and that all other maintenance has been done and you should have a car that will last a long time.|||There were two engines available on the '99 Forester. The better buy for you would be the 2.5 SOHC (single overhead camshaft) engine, available in the second half of the year and continued on with minor changes through today. The earlier DOHC (dual overhead camshaft) engines, though good engines, had head gasket issues almost as a rule after about 125,000 miles or so..|||Good car=yes, Miles it can go depends on care.

If it meets your needs go for it. Get it check out first before you buy it.|||Yes, that's what I want.
