Can a front facing car seat go in the front Passenger seat of a car (Smart Car)?

UK rules only please! Wanting to know if my son's front facing seat can go at the front. Do the air bags need to be disabled? Not sure how to disable them in a Smart Car.|||Airbags have to be off or disabled if you ever put a child in a car seat in the front seat. Depending on your son's weight and age is also a factor whether or not he should be in the front seat. While being more convenient to have him by your side the child is always safer in the back seat. My grandchildren are 6 (twins) and still not allowed to ride in the front seat. Hope this helps, I have to be honest and tell you I do not know the law on this. If you decide to put the car seat in the front seat see your car dealer who can show you how to disable the airbag on his side.

Take care, you sound like a very loving and caring mommy. Your son is lucky to have a mom who is so vigilant about his safety.|||The law requires children (and adults) travelling in the front of all vehicles, including vans, buses, coaches, minibuses and goods vehicles to use an appropriate child restraint or adult seat belts.

An electronically controlled system will detect the weight of the occupant on the passenger seat or the installation of a child restraint system. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) determines the appropriate mode of the dual stage full size front airbag deployment. For very young passengers for whom an airbag deployment could mean a serious risk, the front and side airbags will be deactivated. A control lamp in the center of the roof panel will show this clearly.|||If you cared about your child's safety at all, you would not drive nor put them anywhere in such a stupid vehicle. NOT SMART. Yeah, disable the airbags on any car and put yourself and the child in a vehicle that has more than three feet between the front and back at least, yet alone some sheet metal and tires larger than a tricycle. What you just asked if you should do is more dangerous than putting your kid in a bungie cord tied to his first toe and dropping him on the street without a net. Do you feel safe driving that so called "Smart car" in traffic between semi trucks and "regular" cars in traffic?
