I mean so the back bumper is against the kerb as opposed to the sideskirts...is there anything to actually stop a Smart Car parking this way, legally?|||yes, I think that was one of the things they advertised about it when it first came out.|||In the UK, there is no law stating that a vehicle cannot be parked lengthways in a parking space, however all wheels must be within the lines, else it is illegal.
However, if you are parking on the side of the road, where there are no road markings to indicate a parking space, then you have to park in the direction of traffic.
Owning a smart car myself, i often park it lengthways in a small space, even if my wheels are a bit over the line, solong as you are not causing an obstruction, nobody really cares, after all they are just getting more money for a space that would otherwise be wasted.
Hope this Helps|||The highway code states that:
”You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.”
The rear of your car has reflectors which increase its visibility to passing traffic. If you park your car sideways these reflectors are out of sight to passing traffic, reducing your cars visibility, and making it a danger to other motorists.
I suspect that the police would take an intrest in a car parked like this|||What is a "Smart Car" exactly? Us Canadians are waaaay behind you Europeans and always will be.
Someone had an idea where they would make these vehicles which you would "rent" and pay money for almost like a grocery cart and you could park them (they would actually stack like them too!) and isn't that a novel idea for the future...but you would basically have to build a city from scratch in the middle of nowhere and hope people go for stuff like that. It would work on huge private sites etc. but how cool to have a city run like that. Is it something similar?
Ah, here's a site on the stackable car idea...one of many I might add.

.
PS just to take a stab at answering your question I would imagine they would still enforce the parking rules as you don't want people parking every which way just due to the size of their vehicles. You'll still get a ticket is my guess. Maybe some day if that's all that was on the road, but that's not for a long time to come.|||No i think its totally legal, there used to be a hairdressers smartcar that parked outside my house like that and i never saw it get a ticket or hassle from police|||We have parking bays with a width of 74cm. You can barely get any car parked in that space and certainly not the wrong way round|||Depends on where you are ..you will probably need to check out the council regulations, but I live in London and you see loads parked sideways..makes sense|||you have to park the way traffic is flowing
