I got a good look at the new "Smart Car" yesterday. If the federal government had allowed Ford, Chrysler, %26amp; GM to ignore all the safety rules we would all be getting 50+ MPG.
Take away the EPA and we might be getting 100+ MPG.
Instead they have deliberately destroyed the domestic car manufactures with over regulation.|||Well that would be better than the boat hitch I put on mine...now I can't drive it because the front wheels are up in the air..maybe I can get my mother-in law to sit on the hood till I get to the lake!|||In the late sevnties the Honda Civic was getting 30-32 mpg. In the 70's.
The current Civic model gets up to 40 mpg, depending on transmission.
Foreign cars have to adhere to the same safety regulations in order to be sold in the US.
As it is, there are very few domestic cars that get a comprable gas mileage these days. So you tell me, is it the government preventing them from building more efficient cars, or is it the fault of the automakers?
How is it that the Japanese, korean, and german companies can build safe, fuel efficient cars, but Ford Chrysler and GM can't?|||Yeah...the EPA is forcing domestica auto manufacturers to make less fuel efficient vehicles.
The safest cars in the world come from Germany and they have more efficient vehicles than we have here.
Not only are you pulling things completely from your ***, you're not even doing a good job of cleaning the **** off it.|||No one is forcing you to buy a Smart Car. What a ridiculous straw man argument. Buy one of these instead then -- they are an American company, and are 100% electric, and 1000% pure sex appeal:

.|||They are a lot safer than many think.
Here are a lot of stories where drivers got whacked and they got away without a scratch!
www.safeandsmart.com|||It's not the governments fault that these car manufacturers have been making s***, over-priced cars that nobody wants.|||Why don't we just leave the dead people in their smart cars, and just bury everything at once?|||i think the Smart Car is neat and fills a gap.|||Do your homework first. The Smart is safer than a lot of "normal" sized cars out there. Crash tests have proven it.|||How about a free lobotomy for every new convert to Christianity?|||My Smart Car's license plate reads: LGRDFTRP
