Can a child seat be used in the SMART car?

Just looking into the upcoming release of the SMART car into the USA market in 2008. Since there are airbags all over the place in the car - what will happen if people have small kids who need to use a car seat? I looked on the website - and there is no information listed regarding child seats.|||From the Smart website:

"A rear-facing infant seat can NOT be used in a smart fortwo. A front-facing child seat can be used in the passenger seat. The seat should be moved back into its rear-most position, as far as possible from the front of the car."

As far as crash tests go, some people have not been doing research before answering. The government may test against stationary objects, but Mecedes also tests against other vehicles. The Smart has been built like a cage, and has done remarkably well in crash tests with full size vehicles.

There is no way anything could survive any kind of real accident in one of those death boxes.|||No they can't as two seats are only in there and the two front seats have airbags so if a child was to sit in the front and an accident happened they would become suffercated. I'm from England and they are alread out they are good cars and very reliable but there is hardly any room :)|||Hi, i am not sure on the USA law, but i would think that you would turn off the airbag in the front and have the child seat there. But you might consider a larger car, the ride is a bit hard and the feature`s are not that good in the car.|||Technical considerations aside, if you put a baby in there, there wouldn't be any more room for your purse. And I second the death trap comment. Crash tests are done against a stationary object. No way a few airbags can protect you in this tiny car if you crash into an oncoming 4x4.
