Can a child ride as a passenger in a two seater smart car?

I need to know if a 3yr old can be a passenger in a smart car that has only 2 seats ( Driver and passenger).

Obviously they would be in a car seat/booster seat.

The reason i ask is because I am thinking of buying a smart car once i have passed my test in an automatic car, and i have a 3 yr old son to think about.

Please help only if you know for sure.

many thanks!!|||If you were the driver, the child could only be a passenger if there is NO air bag present on the passenger side. If there is an air bag which can be used then it would be illegal xx|||As far as I know, it's not illegal to have a child this age in the front seat - it's just not recommended. Think about the trucks out there with no back seat.

I wouldn't personally have a child that young in the front seat, but if you do, make sure the airbag is off.|||I would strongly advise that you not buy a Smart Car if you're going to be transporting a young child. Young children need to be in the back seat of a car because the impact of a frontal collision is more dangerous for them if they're in the front seat rather than the back seat.

Even if the child was in a booster seat, regardless of whether the car had airbags or not, it would be unsafe because the amount of frontward thrust in a frontal crash is much stronger in the front seat than the back seat.|||It is not safe to put a child in the front seat because of the air bags that all cars come with now. If your "smart car" has the option to turn off the air bag and you trust that it will not deploy in an accident then get the car. I would play it safe and get a car that sits more than two so you can put you child in the center of the back seat, where it is safer.|||It is not illegal for a child to sit in the front provided they are in the correct seat/booster however it is not recommended as it is not as safe as being seated in the back. Also if anything was to come through the windscreen the child would be safer in the back. With regards to airbags they are telling parents that they must be switched off especially with rear facing car seats due to some serious and fatal accidents that have been caused by airbags.

Ideally children should be kept in the back til they are 12-13|||maybe you can ask the car company you are going to buy it off good luck
