I'm looking into the Smart Cars and they aren't bad looking cars and very inexpensive. I want to make it cool so I'd probably throw some tinted windows, rims and HID lights. I also would want it to have fast acceleration. What would I have to modify in the car to do this?|||There is really nothing you can do about it - the 1.0L engine and sequential manual transmission are the best you can fit in the shortened chassis. I haven't seen anything about the gasoline engines except they seem to be an improvement over the diesel engines the SMART originally came with. In forums the enthusiasts acknowledged the life expectancy of one of the diesel engines (I forget which one) was about 50K km (yes - 30 K miles life on the engine). The other version of the engine was reputed to make it over 100K miles regularly. Even "faster" would be a major undertaking - a turbo could make it almost as fast as a stock Prius, but still with only 60-80% of the Prius fuel economy and 40% of the passenger capacity. The gasoline SMART car reaches 60 mph in 14 seconds while a Prius makes it in 10 seconds.|||Make sure you're always going downhill.
(Seriously, no matter what you do, any mod to that car is only going to do so much. As they sit, they are very slow... you'd have to put thousands in to the car to make it even close to being considered "quick".)|||smart cars suck
