When you buy an American Smart Car, does some of the profits go to Diamler in Germany?
If someone buys a smart-for-two, or the new 5-door they will be having, will some of the profits go to Diamler and Mercedes in Germany? Answers appreciated|||Sure, the parent company will receive some of the profit. Its not very much though. The smart is not a very profitable car, the thinking is Daimler is keeping them to pad their overall fleet mileage numbers, and as a future technology vehicle. ie. pure electric. I think 300 of them made it to N. America this year, mainly snapped up by corporate customers, utilities and such.|||Of course Germany will see some of the profit. DAG (Daimler AG, the German corporate head office) sells the vehicle to MBNA (Mercedes Benz North America) which sells the vehicle to the dealer and in turn, it is sold to the consumer. Each business unit will see some of the profit from the sale of the vehicle.
What are the dimensions of a Smart Car?
how big is a smart car exactly?|||they are very small. perfect for clowns and commuters. no groceries.
DOES THE SMART CAR MAKE NOISE IN RUNNING?
because the smart car has the engine within the car , does that make one hear the engine noise whilst driving?|||Yes you can hear it.It's not too loud . It has a pleasant roar under hard acceleration. Highway speeds do not have a loud effect. It's a good balance between quiet and roar|||Yes, If you can hear an engine 5 feet infront of you you can hear one a foot underneath you =p But its comprable to most cars, not louder.
What would happen if you were driving a Smart Car and got in a Car Accident?
I mean the Car has like a 1 star Safety rating. If you get hit by another car, your toast.
Like these cars: http://www.motorhomesdirect.co.uk/images鈥?/a>|||You know, if a kid lost his basketball and it rolled out in front of the smart car the thing would probably tip over. Can you imagine driving that little teacup on a windy day?
In all seriousness, if a normal size car hit it, it would be toast and you would be toast.|||I was in Europe and the UK recently. The cars were referred to as the decapitators by many, because they routinely decapitate the occupants when they run into the back of a truck or larger vehicle. Most often in minor accidents. (imagine what they would do in a major accident!) It apparently has happened frequently.
There is no reason for such an unsafe alternative in the name of environmental efficiency or fuel efficiency. You would be safer on a bicycle with a helmet.
Economy has never had such a bad choice.|||I guess you will be toast if your in a Smart Car and an Expedition, Escalade or Hummer hits you head on, doing 50mph. I guess a Smart car is too short to T-bone also (its about as long as other vehicles are wide) - wonder what you would call that???:-)
Either way, physics is physics, a small vehicle being hit by a big one is ugly - and the passengers (and driver) of the smaller vehicle will be more likely to be injured than passengers of a larger vehicle.|||The Smart Car in a Car Accident with another Car would become a mart Car or a Smar Car (dependent on whether it was a FRONT or a REAR end 'Shunt' or the Smart Car would become a mar Car if it was involved in a FRONT %26amp; REAR end 'Shunt' at the SAME time with other Cars / Vehicles etc. !
What NO Sense of Humour ? Doh !|||No such thing as a smart car if the driver's not smart right?
At the end of the top gear clip Jeremy points out that it's the sudden impact of such a small frame that will tear the organs up.|||On Youtube there are many videos that are on this very subject. My favorite video is where a Smart Car is smashed into a Mercedes S-Class, the Smart Car literally rolls away like a soccer ball.|||where did you hear 1 star safety rating.? the smart car is extremely safe
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CJHpUO-S0i鈥?/a>|||That car wouldn't be so smart after the accident now would it? I'm sure your car would have to wear a helmet after that one.|||it's got a pretty smart safety design.|||Stop driving those cars|||I would not want to find out.|||I think you'd be pretty much dead, eh?

What are some ways to increase power in a smart car?
wats the biggest engine that could fit into it? can you upgrade brakes from drum to disc? any ways to increase horsepower? should i take it into a ferrari, lambourghini, porsche or any other fast car tuning shop and have them tune it?|||The whole point of a smart car is not to have a huge engine stuffed into it, but to have a perfectly matched engine that has enough power to drive the car for normal use while using minimal gasoline. The places you name would be totally bewildered by the car and unwilling to touch it. You would need someone from an odd shop associated with Road %26amp; Track if they felt a sudden need to warp the use of the car.
Smart Car continues beeping once turned off?
When I turn off my Smart Car, its warning beep continues as though the lights or something else is on, but nothing is? Does anyone know why this happens? The lgiths are off, stereo, internal light ect. If i turn the car back on then off, it stops! Anyone have this problem or have an idea as to what is the problem?|||I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm not 100% sure as to why you bought a Smart Car either.|||Sometimes ignition switches hang up a bit - try wiggling the key in the end of the slot to see if it clicks and makes the dinging stop.
Is it cheaper to run a smart car in automatic rather than semi automatic (manual) ?
This is on a diesel smart car and trying to figure out if in the manual drive we use fuel quiucker than if driving the automatic.|||In general it is, slightly, more economical to drive in fully automatic than manual.
Where a larger saving can be made, during the winter months especially, is to slip a sheet of card, approximately 33% of the radiator area, in front of the radiator.
This ensures a faster warm time and a shorter duration in which an enriched mixture is contributed by the ECU sensors.
